A cosy restaurant interior with a large pendant light, a dark wooden table set for dining with wine glasses and plates. A black vase with a floral arrangement and a background wall with shelves holding wine bottles.

Our story:

Alley is a place created by a group of young expats from around the world. The original idea was inspired by the Southern European restaurant culture, where food and wine are unpretentious, approachable, and affordable.

We all know how dining out in Helsinki can be expensive, especially in the city centre. With Alley, we wanted to create something that we felt was missing: a place that stays honest to the culture and vibe that inspired us, and to the food and wines we serve.

Our goal is to stay small, local, and truly part of the neighbourhood — a restaurant that focuses on the people of Kallio. Alley is an open space, a common dining room, and a shared living room for everyone.

Our cooking style is centred around open-fire cooking, drawing inspiration from the flavours and techniques of Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines. The menu evolves with the seasons, guided by the best ingredients available at each time of year.

Our kitchen philosophy:

  • The foods

We serve food made with local ingredients & cook through open-fire, while our kitchen takes inspiration from the flavours of Asia and the Middle East.

  • A key lime margarita

    The wines

We focus on artisanal wines made by small producers who care about improving viticulture and promoting responsible agriculture.

  • A martini cocktail with olives

    The vibe

We want to create a relaxed rather than formal space, with a lively neighbourhood energy and a strong focus on good food, good wine and a genuine connection between our guests and us.

  • A glass of a scotch on the rocks

    The service

Every single guest who walks through the door feels like a family member to us. We’ll talk to you the same way we talk to our friends and family. Formality and over-polishing are things we don’t want to offer at Alley.
